Kenya: Airtel Lowers Call Cost for Customers
02 March, 2013
Margaret Wahito, Capital FM
March 2, 2013
Nairobi — Airtel Kenya has announced a new call rate that will see its prepaid customers access calls for as low as Sh1 per minute on its network.
The promotion dubbed 'Piga stori na 1 bob' enables Airtel customers to talk with their friends and family on Airtel daily for only Sh1 per minute from the 3rd minute of their calls for the day.
Airtel Kenya managing director Shivan Bhargava said the minutes are cumulative; for example, if the first call was 1 minute, second call 1minute, then in the next call the customer shall enjoy the Sh1 per minute rate.
Airtel customers only need to dial *555# from their mobile phone to access the tariff.
An SMS with the words "Congratulations you have been successfully subscribed to piga stori na 1 bob. Enjoy calling your friends and family on Airtel at just Kshs1 from the 3rd minute" will be received by that customer upon successful registration on the tariff.
"Our objective is to offer more value to our consumers who will continue to receive world class service at more affordable rates than ever before from Airtel. This new rate will give our customers freedom to talk for longer by paying less enabling them to share their stories and experiences with friends and family during this historic period of elections in Kenya when everyone needs to monitor and share progress while keeping in close touch with each other at all times," the MD said.
The company is also currently running the Jaza Ushinde promotion where its prepaid customers who top up for Sh50 or more get an entry into a weekly draw where they get a chance to have a range of their bills paid including rent, shopping, fuel, electricity and airtime and water.
