Dar Hailed Over Cyber Crime Fight

TANZANIA is reportedly doing fine in the fight against cyber crime, with plans to embark on deployment of egovernment being hailed as a good move.

This was said by Cyberoam's Country Manager, Mr Kalpesh Maheshwari in reference to the country report by International Telecommunication Union, which projects it as a country embarking on deployment of e-government and raising efforts to curb the rising tide of cyber crime.

Mr Maheshwari pointed out that more organizations are adopting the internet as medium of transmission for the core business functions with the e-mail replacing the fax as the main medium of transmission.

He noted in Dar es Salaam that just as any other country, the organizations that heavily depend on the internet and computer network are at risk from cyber attacks which could be deliberate attempts to disrupt services (Denial of Service Attacks) or even more sophisticated attacks.

In addition to this, there is no law which protects data or databases in Tanzania. Some of the main concerns would be the right to privacy, data protection and danger of information misuse. Such a state of orders in terms of Network Security calls for huge demand for solutions like Cyberoam in the region.

He spoke as the global network security appliances organisation announced the appointment of Tanzania's Channel Manager, Ms Winnie Mafuru, to support partners in their customer acquisition for the Tanzania region.

He said the appointment came as part of rigorous efforts in building up dynamic partner community, driving better service and support for customers.

Ms Mafuru said she would be utilizing her experience in nurturing the market and long term growth plans for Cyberoam in the region.

She was previously Channel Manager- Signage Solutions, with a leading Sales and Marketing agency focusing on Channel Management on the African continent.

Mr Maheshwari said the African markets hold a lot of scope for a comprehensive solution like Cyberoam. Speaking on Cyberoam's future plans for the region, Mr Maheshwari added; "Expansion is definitely our strategy, and appointing a local channel manager was the beginning towards our larger goals for the region."

To achieve, she noted she would enhance focus further on working closely with channel partners to enable them to expand their business and increase their offerings to each customer they serve.
