Vodafone Institutes Measures to Curb Future Glitch

Vodafone Ghana has taken immediate measures to address the challenges which recently obstructed the provision of telecom services to its subscribers in the country. The setback some few weeks ago left several subscribers unable to make calls, recharge credits, and browse the internet. Following that experienced which sparked subscribers' disaffection; the management of Vodafone Ghana conducted a thorough investigation into the root cause of the network glitch.

They found out that the network glitch was caused by an electrical surge, which resulted in six boards in three of the network's routers not responding correctly. Managers of the telecom service provider added: "We have not only replaced these six boards but taken additional steps which will improve further the reliability of our network in the future.

"We are also undertaking a detailed technology and power audit to ensure the future strength of our network and we will share this with the National Communications Authority (NCA)". The Chief Executive Officer for Vodafone Ghana, Haris Broumidis, said the systems have been performing well since the remedial steps were introduced.

"We have conducted several network performance tests, which show the network experience is back to normal and we are also pleased to report that our network traffic rapidly recovered to the levels we observed before the incident." Touching on compensation to those who suffered the recent network outage, he explained: "On 5 June 2014 we began compensating our customers for the inconvenience caused by the outage.

The majority of our prepaid customers have already received compensation and our enterprise customers will receive a discount on their bills at the end of June. Full details of the compensation plan - which was discussed with, and approved by the National Communications Authority - will be published in the media over the next few days".

Mr. Broumidis used the opportunity to thank the customers of Vodafone Ghana for their understanding and loyalty. He stressed: "We continue to be fully committed to providing all of you with the best services and a great network experience.

We have invested over US$700 million in our network since 2009 to meet the communication needs of our customers and we will continue to do so in the future to ensure they enjoy the best services".
