State to Process Licence Application Online

The government plans to avail its licensing services through mobile platforms to ease applications and processing ICT Cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi said yesterday.

Speaking at the East Africa CIO Summit 2014 in Nairobi, Matiangi said that Kenya has embarked on digital programming and that will see the ICT sector invest on personnel and modern technology.

"The Chief Innovation Officers (CIO) are expected to adopt new innovations to provide solution for the public's service demands in the country," he said

Matiang'i said the ICT sector is expected to transit from the second to third information technology platform driven by heavy adoption of mobile transmission of huge data volumes.

"The International Telecommunications Union 2014 ICT facts and figures states that by the end of 2014, the number of mobile-broadband subscriptions will reach 2.3 billion globally with 55 per cent of these subscription expected to be in the developing world," he said

Matiang'i said with these changes the next generation will demand services in a non-traditional platforms.

He said in the current financial year the ICT ministry will strive to ensure each ministry has the services of CIO so in order develop a modern platform of technology.

"The CIO's will be the strategic thinkers and critical analysers of this sector thus we will be able to rely on innovative approaches of service deliveries," he said.
