The national digital registration of persons will be rolled out in a few months and will introduce a data bank for all Kenyans, ICT Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i said yesterday.

Speaking at the CIO summit in Nairobi, Matiang'i said the initiative will strengthen national security and improve efficiency in the provisions of public services.

The database is expected to contain biometric details of all persons, land, establishments and assets.

"This data has to be managed seamlessly and safely and Kenya has developed a cyber security strategy that provides the framework for keeping data safe," he said

This comes after the government had confirmed that all Kenyans will be registered afresh for a new national digital database to improve planning and security situation in Kenya.
