MTN Uganda last week commissioned a newly refurbished ICT resource centre in Mukono district, as the telecom firm looked to deepen its impact on those who seek educational services.

Speaking at the event, MTN CEO Mazen Mroue said that education was one of the areas the company intended to concentrate on this year.

"Education is at the forefront in 2014. The intention is to move across the country," he said.

Other areas the telecom company intends to invest more in are health and agricultural development. MTN Uganda hopes to bridge the digital divide in Mukono by bringing reliable and affordable internet services closer to the people there.

The company said it had invested Shs 200m in the resource centre. By playing a role in literacy development, the company hopes it can play a role in human resource development.

"There is a direct link between improved literacy and the socio-economic status of any community. We are committed to supporting such initiatives that further enhance human capacity building as a catalyst for economic development," MrouƩ added.
