ICT Africa will host a series of workshops on optical communications in selected African cities. The first event is being planned for Harare, Zimbabwe, and subsequent event details will be posted on the ICT Africa website. To receive updates on these events, interested parties are advised to register by pointing their browsers to the link provided below.
The insatiable demand for bandwidth is driving networking speeds to levels never before imaginable. Standards organisations and equipment vendors are working relentlessly to develop new standards and revolutionary new products to keep up with the ever changing industry requirements. Operators and service providers developing and operating any ICT networks – should they be long distance, metropolitan, broadband access, LAN or data center - must keep abreast with the rapidly changing communication technologies.
ICT Africa optical communication workshops offer valuable training and updates on optical communication technologies and trends. Next generation optical networking products from the world leading vendor partners of ICT Africa will also be reviewed during these workshops.
Managers, engineers and technicians involved with all aspects of network design, network implementation, network operation and network maintenance from telecommunication operators, service providers and any enterprises or institutions will benefit the most from these workshops.
The workshop agenda will include the following topics:
Fundamentals of fiber optics
Introduction to optical cabling
Evolution of optical communications standards, including:
- Passive optical networks (xPON)
- Digital subscriber lines (xDSL)
- Ethernet (including Carrier Ethernet)
Next generation optical communication solutions, including:
- IP/Ethernet solutions for metropolitan networks
- Broadband access solutions
