ICT Africa is delighted to be media partner for the FTTH Council Africa 2013 conference to be held at Maropeng, in Gauteng, South Africa. Following the success of their first FTTH conference in Cape Town, South Africa in 2012, the FTTH Council Africa will host their second conference from 29 to 30 October, 2013.
While there are a large number of conferences addressing many aspects of ICT every year in Africa, only FTTH Council Africa Conference is dedicated to addressing fibre optic networks in Africa.
To guarantee high quality of service for the rapidly evolving mobile networks in Africa, robust fibre optic backbone and backhaul networks are a requirement. Moreover, for Africa to take full advantage of ICT for the development of the continent, fibre bases access networks such as Fibre to the Home (FTTH) should be developed alongside mobile access networks. It is for these reasons that ICT Africa supports FTTH Africa in their effort to bring together industry players in Africa to address challenges and opportunities in fibre optic networks in Africa.
The objective of this year’s Conference is to provide a forum where representatives from all spheres of industry can meet and discuss the most recent advances in the industry, but also consider the future and effective preparation.
The theme of the 2013 Conference is “The Future is in our hands”. “The setting in the Cradle of Humankind provides a perfect platform to reflect, but more than that, to consider the future from a multi-faceted lens”, according to FTTH Council President, Richard Came.
FTTH Africa has lined up several keynote speakers to address the conference; including Dr. Andile Ncgaba, Chairmain, Dimension Data and President of the FOA Africa; Arif Hussain, Chief Executive Officer of FibreCo Telecommunications; Dr. Jabulani Dhliwayo, Market Development Manager with Corning Incorporated; Dobek Pater, Telecommunications Analyst with Africa Analysis and Dr Adrian Tiplady
SKA Bid Manager and scientific, technical and strategic consultant to the SKA Project Director.
